New $16 Million Multi-use Library Facility at Helemano Elementary School

WhiteSpace has been working with DOE and Helemano Elementary School to redesign their 70-year old multi-use library & admin office building, which is outdated and does not support the school’s needs. The newly designed, 12,000 SF building will replace the existing structure and provide new services such as the main campus Library, student media and health center, counseling and faculty offices, among other community spaces. The project will also reconfigure the parking lot, drop-off areas, landscaping and covered walkways to supplement daily activities.

I am excited for the new administration and library building, which will create much-needed space for our students and staff. The learning opportunities for the Helemano community will be greatly enhanced for years to come,” said Helemano Elementary School Principal Ernest Muh in a statement in a statement for Pacific Business News, follow link below for the full news article.

Design inspiration came from Helemano’s local history of Wahiawā. The area is rich in pineapple plantation heritage which was subtly incorporated through the use of the school’s colors, green, yellow, and brown, and through the building silhouette’s symmetry and hard-edges.

Demolition of the existing building is set to start late-2024, with full construction anticipated to begin mid-2025. The project is managed by Laura Ayers and Alessandra Marsh; The design was lead by Becky Ziebelman and Ana Ruiz.
