Creating Sanctuary: WhiteSpace Architects' Support for Aloha Animal Sanctuary
At WhiteSpace Architects, our commitment to creating inspiring spaces extends beyond the confines of traditional architecture. We believe that the impact of thoughtful design should not only enrich the lives of humans but also extend to our animal companions. That's why we're proud to support Aloha Animal Sanctuary, a local nonprofit here on Oahu dedicated to providing sanctuary for neglected, abused, and abandoned animals.
Aloha Animal Sanctuary resonates with our belief that inspiring spaces can benefit both humans and animals alike. Their mission to provide a safe haven for animals aligns perfectly with our vision of creating environments that nurture and uplift all beings. In 2023, on Giving Tuesday, we made a direct donation to Aloha Animal Sanctuary, contributing to their ongoing efforts to care for animals in need.
Earlier this year, our partnership with Aloha Animal Sanctuary took on a more tangible form when we collaborated with them to design a new chicken aviary. Leveraging our expertise in architectural design, we provided renderings for the aviary, which played a crucial role in securing a $20,000 grant from Home Depot Hawaii. This grant will facilitate the construction of the aviary, providing a safe and comfortable space for the sanctuary's feathered residents.
But our involvement doesn't stop at the drawing board. On February 17, 2024, members of the WhiteSpace Architects team had the opportunity to visit Aloha Animal Sanctuary in person. Witnessing the beginnings of the chicken aviary construction was a heartwarming experience, reaffirming our commitment to supporting initiatives that make a tangible difference in our community. We spent the day volunteering together, further strengthening our connection to Aloha Animal Sanctuary's mission.
Aloha Animal Sanctuary is Oahu's First 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Sanctuary for Farmed Animals. Aloha Animal Sanctuary was founded by a team of animal rights activists who recognized there was a need for a sanctuary for farmed animals on Oahu. Many people have never had the chance to interact with animals like pigs, cows, chickens, or turkeys, although we slaughter and eat them by the billions annually. We want to help people form personal connections with these animals, and see them for the individuals that they are.
At WhiteSpace Architects, community involvement is more than just a checkbox — it's an integral part of who we are. Engaging in projects like the chicken aviary not only brings our team closer together, but it also reflects our design ethos rooted in the Hawaiian sense of place.
As stewards of our environment and advocates for all creatures, we remain dedicated to building hope and making a positive impact, one inspiring space at a time.
